Local Athletes Busy During Holiday Break

Local schools may be closed for the holidays, but their basketball teams are working.  They are practicing to keep skills sharp.  And they have games scheduled during the break.

On Monday, Red River’s boys and girls were playing in the Doc Edwards Memorial Tournament in Bossier City.  The boys lost the consolation game to Airline High School 57 to 53.  The girls played in the tournament finals.  They were defeated by arch-rival Benton 58 to 55.

Monday night the Riverdale Rebels entertained the Raiders from Riverfield Academy at Rayville.  The Lady Rebels dominated the Lady Raiders 50 to 16.  The Rebels had more than they could enjoy from the Raiders, falling to a very athletic and skilled team 52 to 42.

Here is the schedule for the rest of the week:

Red River boys play in the Bossier Tournament beginning on Thursday.  The girls travel to Alexandria to take part in the ASH Tournament that starts on Friday.

The Riverdale Academy boys and girls teams play at Monroe in the River Oaks Tournament beginning on Friday, January 3rd.

Meanwhile, Red River is celebrating the high rankings in the state 2-A ranks for both basketball teams. The Lady Bulldogs are Ranked #2 in the State in 2A.  And the Bulldogs ranked #5 in the State in 2A.
