Demolition of the high school football stadium began early Monday morning. Heavy equipment rolled toward the 65 plus year old structure in the chilly air and began taking it apart.
First to go was the old brick dressing rooms underneath the stadium. They were used for storage and much of the stuff that had been put there over the years was still inside when the first walls came crashing down.
The stadium was used through the end of the 2019 football season and playoffs. Voters several years ago approved a $29,000,000 bond issue to build new classroom buildings, a new junior high gymnasium, a new music building, and make major upgrades to sports facilities. A new stadium is part of that package.
In the last week, iron fencing around the stadium had been removed. The facility has been closed to the public due to the construction.
