The Coushatta Town Council voted Tuesday night to discontinue health and medical insurance for council members, the Mayor and part-time town employees. The vote was 4-1 in favor of the motion. It is effective January 1, 2020.
Mayor Johnny Cox explained to the council that he discovered the practice is against state law. Cox said the town’s attorney recommended the change. Cox added that the reduction of medical insurance coverage for elected officials and part-time workers would save the town $750,000 over the next 10 years.
