The Red River Sheriff’s Office has released the identity of the man who drowned Saturday at Grand Bayou. He is Joey Cole of Coushatta.

Funeral services for Joseph Mitchell “Joey” Cole, 51, of Coushatta, LA will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday, August 22, 2019 at Rockett-Nettles Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Matt Endris officiating and Bro. Clyde Miley assisting. Interment will follow in Bethany Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 P.M. until 8 P.M. Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at the funeral home.
The Sheriff’s Office released these details of the incident:
At approximately 3:49 p.m. on Saturday August 17, 2019, Red River Parish Sheriff’s Office Communications received an emergency call in reference to a potential drowning victim at Grand Bayou Resort. Red River Parish Sheriff’s deputies and Red River Parish EMS responded to the lake resort located off of LA 784 south of Coushatta.
Emergency personnel arrived at the boat launch at the facility as the victim was being transported by a personal boat/barge to shore. The victim was a white/male, 51 years of age from Many, Louisiana. He was transported to Christus Coushatta Hospital by Red River Parish EMS where he was pronounced deceased.
The victim was swimming with a group of people off a “party barge” in open water on the lake. The victim was reported to have several medical issues and no foul play is suspected.
