A candidate for the state Senate visited the Red River Parish Police Jury during their August meeting. He is Douglas Brown, a rice and crawfish farmer from Cheneyville. Brown said he came to the meeting to introduce himself. All of Red River is in District 31, an open Senate seat currently held by Gerald Long.
Brown told the Police Jurors Louisiana has more of a spending problem than a tax problem. He said, “I want to bring things down to the local level, not just spend in Baton Rouge and the big cities. I want to keep Northwest Louisiana from being left out.”
Brown is opposed by Louis Bernard of Natchitoches and Trey Flynn of Alexandria. The election is scheduled Saturday October 12th.
