School Employees Saluted

Two school employees were saluted as Employees of the Month at the April school board meeting.  March employee is Chris Sibley, the Sheriff’s Resource Officer at Red River High.  The April employee is Clevella “Maw” Gafford, a teacher at Springville Educational Center.

Red River High Principal JC Dickey nominated Sibley.  Dickey said, “Officer Sibley wears many hats from detective, traffic officer, counselor, mentor, chauffer and occasionally bouncer.  But at 3:30 he clocks out as SRO and clocks in as Coach Sib and works day in and day out with our football, weight lifting and track programs.”

“Chris is one of the most proactive members I have on staff,” added Dickey, “he’s always looking ahead and trying to help us be the best we can be.”  The nomination statement concluded with Dickey thanking Officer Sibley for his work “protecting our school and investing in the lives of our young people.”

April’s Teacher of the Month is a living legend in Red River Parish.  SEC Principal Jacqueline Daniels nominated Clevella Gafford, “The word ‘legend’ denotes longevity, perseverance, great accomplishment and a person worthy of deep respect.  Those are certainly attributes befitting Clevella Gafford.  Although retired for the third, or fourth time, she still chooses to serve the students and community.  Mrs. Gafford has chosen to work with our very brightest and best behaved students, the expelled and suspended students.”

Daniels referred to Gafford as she is affectionately known as “Maw” and said, “she is an inspiration to those half her age and who have half of her energy and commitment.  We all want to be like Maw when we grow up.”

Mrs. Gafford told the board, “I love you and the people of Coushatta.  I am only 18 and holding and I am still walking the walk and talking the talk.”

The Employee of the Month award is presented each month by Taylor and Sons, the school system’s insurance company.  The March employee was presented at the April meeting due to a scheduling conflict in March.
