The closing of a bridge last Friday in northern Red River Parish is causing quite a stir among those who travel Highway 507 on a daily basis. Here is the news release from the state transportation department:
“The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development advises motorists that beginning on Friday, April 5, 2019 at 9:00 a.m., the LA 507 bridge over an unnamed creek near Womack in Red River Parish will be closed due to bridge conditions until further notice.
This bridge is located approximately 3.8 miles east of US 371.
Alternate route: Total road closure. ALL vehicles must detour using US 371 and LA 4.
This work will be performed WEATHER PERMITTING.”
The Journal asked DOTD’s Public Information Officer in Shreveport about rumors circulating concerning the cause for the closure. Erin Buchanan told us, “We sent out several press releases on Friday morning regarding 4 bridge closures in Red River, Claiborne, and Bienville Parishes. These closures are due to the natural deterioration and age of the structures. There is currently no timeline on repairs. We are assessing the possibility of performing some of the repairs with our in-house District bridge crews but some of the other work is likely extensive enough to require a construction project.”
Buchanan said, “All of the press releases can be found at the below link under the ‘Road/Lane Status’ section.
