The School Board celebrated Students of the Month for February on Monday night. Superintendent Alison Hughes and VFW Post Commander Barry McCoy presented certificates and gift cards to the students.
Red River Elementary Student of the Month is Alyssa Young. Hughes read her nomination that said:
“Alyssa is an incredible second grader who is loving, caring and thoughtful of others. She is respectful, intelligent and possesses leadership characteristics. Alyssa is always willing to lend a helping hand to her peers and to anyone she feels needs help. She is deeply motivated to do her classwork and has ambition to be successful in everything she does. It is a privilege for Mrs. Kenyotta Williams-Calhoun to have such a wonderful student in her class.”
The student selected from Red River Junior High is Jeremiah Roberson. Superintendent Hughes said he had been out ill, so his mother, Cynthia Melton accepted for him. Roberson’s nomination said”
“Jeremiah is an outstanding student. He exhibits a positive work ethic with great attendance. Jeremiah is always quick to help anyone in need. He sets a positive example for his peers, as well as the sixth and seventh grade students. If you see Jeremiah in the hallway or cafeteria, he is always laughing and smiling. This positive personality carries over to the classroom. You will rarely find Jeremiah frustrated with a problem. Any frustration is quickly replaced with enthusiasm of a solved problem that he is willing to share with his classmates. Jeremiah lives by the eighth grade motto “I Will.” He has not and will not be faced with a situation too big for this promising young student.”
And the Red River High School student selected as Student of the Month is Mallory Coleman. From her nomination statement Hughes read:
“Mallory is an exceptional student. She is very respectful and embodies the characteristics of a student who wants to grow academically. Her work ethic distinguishes her among her peers. Her tenacity to succeed and her need to understand the principles are what make her shine.
Each month a student is selected from each school to be the Student of the Month. The program is sponsored by Coushatta’s VFW Post 7287 and Auxiliary 7287. Each student gets a certificate and a gift card from Coushatta Dairy Queen.
