The Junior Varsity basketball teams from Riverdale Academy are the best in their district. They secured the championship trophies this past weekend. The story from Coach Ty Hester:
Man what a day. First of all, I would like to thank everyone who came out and supported the Riverdale JV Boys’ and Girls’ teams today. We sincerely appreciate it and our parents/fans deserve credit for essentially taking over gyms no matter where we’re playing. Secondly, I couldn’t be prouder of my guys for what they were able to do today. We had to beat a tough opponent on their home floor to advance to the Championship game, and then we had to beat a very good team w/ some Varsity-level players to win our third straight District Championship. It sure wasn’t easy, but my guys stuck together, played for each other, and got the job done.
We had some ups and downs throughout the year, and I was pretty tough on them because I knew what they were capable of doing. And today we were able to put it all together and play our best game of the season to finish with a record of 16-2.
Parents, I’m extremely thankful and blessed for the opportunity to coach your kids and I appreciate you all for allowing me to do so. Also, thank you all for raising such high-character kids. For the 3rd season in a row we’ve had zero major attitude problems or off-the-court issues. That is very important because it lets us focus on basketball and getting better every day. I would also like to congratulate the JV Girls on two amazing wins, including a huge comeback to win their District Title as well. It was awesome to see all the kids celebrating together at the end. There are too many people for me to thank all of them, but I’d like to give a special shoutout to Ms. Nancy Nettles, Mrs. Keri Wilhite, and Mrs. Marie Woodard for all of their help with the stats and books. We couldn’t do it without you. I would also like to thank our manager, Mr. Colin Hesson for doing such a great job for us. Also obviously a huge thanks to Nick Williamson, Morgan Garrett, and Steve Weir for all of their help throughout the season. Again, I’m extremely proud of our kids and what they were able to accomplish today. It’s awesome to be a Rebel and I would like to ask everyone to continue supporting our Varsity teams as we have some huge games coming up this postseason!
