Early voting for the fall primary election begins next Tuesday, October 23rd and will run through October 30th. You can cast your ballot at the Registrar of Voters office in the courthouse every day except Sunday.
Registrar Debra Jones reminded voters, “You will have to go through the security checkpoint at the front entrance to the courthouse. Then to vote you will need to present your driver’s license or ID card. If you don’t have either you can complete an affidavit and still vote.”
On line registration closed yesterday and Jones said in-person registration closed the week before.
Our ballot will have one statewide office, to fill the unexpired term of the Secretary of State. Nine people filed for Secretary of State including Kyle Ardoin who is the acting Secretary. Also on the ballot is the 4th District Congressional election. Incumbent Mike Johnson has two challengers for his seat. Those races have not generated much interest locally.
Jones said there is a good bit of local interest in the four local school board races. “I expect a fairly good turnout. There will be more interest than in last years election when there were no local races on the ballot.”
School Board members Cleve Miller, Kasandria White, Valerie Cox and Susan Taylor all face opposition. You have probably seen the signs all over town and incumbents and challengers have been out campaigning.
