Three students attending Red River public schools were honored at this week’s meeting of the Red River Parish School Board. One from each school was selected by their teachers and administration as the Student of the Month.
Superintendent Alison Hughes called the students to the front of the room. Hughes and Susanne Wastlund, representing VFW Post and Auxiliary 7287, presented each with a certificate and gift card to Dairy Queen.
Cheyenne Lovell was named Student of the Month from Red River Elementary. Hughes said, “She is spot-on with academics and is a team player. She embodies the Capturing Kids Hearts Social Contract. She takes care of academic needs first and then lends herself to helping the struggling learners. She engages in extra-curricular activities and most of all, she represents the school community well.” Lovell is in the 4th grade.
The Junior High Student of the Month is Jakyveone Jones who is in the eighth grade. Hughes said, “Jakyveone was chosen by the administration and his 8th grade teachers because of his outstanding leadership and effort in the classroom. He works hard to achieve his goals in and out of the classroom. Jakyveone is a positive influence to his peers and does a great job at redirecting and helping to keep other students on task. The effort that he has shown in the classroom this year is what really stood out to his teachers and administration, and the reason he was selected as the September Student of the Month.”
Tenth grade student Chloe Pickett is the Red River High Student of the Month. Hughes said, “Chloe is pleasant, very polite and works hard every day. She is always willing to help others when she can. As a 10th grader in an 11th grade Advanced Placement class, she has every reason to complain, but she does not. While she is not yet “best in class,” her daily improvement puts her on that path.”
Each month outstanding Students of the Month are selected by local schools and recognized for their achievements. VFW Post 7287 and Auxiliary 7287 sponsor the program and present each student with a certificate and gift card to Dairy Queen. The students are also recognized on the school’s website:
