ETC… for Friday September 14th

The lights will be bright on football fields across the country tonight. Unfortunately the lights will be out at Riverdale and Red River. Both teams are out of town. Riverdale travels to Gulfport, Mississippi to play Collegiate Christian Academy. Red River has a short drive to Mansfield to play the Wolverines. Both games will be streamed live on and the Journal’s social media outlets

I love to cook, but my desert making leaves a lot to be desired. So it was good news when NSU announced a beginning cake decorating class. The non-credit class sponsored by the Office of Electronic and Continuing Education will be held on Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Culinary Arts building adjacent to the Friedman Student Union through Oct. 22. The fee for the class is $99.

Louisiana Senator John Kennedy voted in favor of the package of appropriations bills that includes funding for the new gate off I-20 into Barksdale Air Force Base. Also included in the bill was an increased focus on reducing wait times at veterans’ clinics and facilities. In Louisiana, wait times at VA clinics are as high as 45 days. The appropriations bills were sent on to the President for his signature.

Mark October 9th on your calendar. The School Board has moved the date of the October meeting to Tuesday the 9th. Many members of the board will be out of town for their continuing education on Monday the 8th, the regular meeting date.
