ETC… for August 3rd

The Annual Ice Cream Social at Riverdale Academy is August 9th at 6:00 p.m. The evening begins with a short assembly in the gym with a message from the new principal, Dr. Robert Peters. Event organizers said, “Come hungry! We will have a hamburger supper that includes hamburger, chips, and a drink for $6.00. Of course there will be plenty of ice cream for all!”

A long time Coushatta resident and native has been selected as Citizen of the Year in Johnstown, Colorado. Billy Stevens was selected as Citizen of the Year for his church planting work in Johnstown (15,000 population). He and his wife Stephanie have focused upon helping hurting families, organizing the neighborhoods for fun kids activities, and leading students to excel at the local high school where he taught five business classes. Billy is the son of Russell and Linda Stevens, of Stevens Tractor Company and brother to Tanya Stevens Cormier.

Back to School open house was held at Red River High on Thursday night. The Red River Junior High PAW Parents posted that “Open House is tomorrow at RRJH. Starting at 5:30 to 7:30pm. Everything will be in the gym. You will be able to purchase P.E. Uniforms for $20 and Spirit shirts for $15.”

Hope you got some of the rain that passed through the area this week. It makes the grass grow for a short while, but the forecast says we are in for at least a week of hot summer weather before the next precipitation. Remember not to burn. Red River Parish remains under a ban on outdoor burning due to dry conditions.

You know summer is almost over. The news is full of back to school events. And Anderson’s Produce and Ed Lester Farms have closed their fresh produce stands for the summer. Hope you filled your freezer!
