Possible misspending of funds of the Red River Parish Communications District as well as improper or possibly illegal loans to an employee were revealed in an audit released to the public today. The Louisiana Legislative Auditor released an investigative audit of certain funds of the Communications District, known also as the 9-1-1- District. In the audit the district’s former Administrator is said to have “issued 10 extra paychecks to herself…between July 2016 and January 2017.”

District Administrator Jennifer Mahfouz was released from her position in April 2018. There has been no replacement named at this time.

The district’s annual audit of January through December 2017 was done by a private firm. When that firms audit process revealed certain transactions that were questionable, the information was turned over to the Legislative Auditor for further investigation. The results of that investigation are included in today’s report.

The Journal will have further details on the investigation and the full audit in Wednesday’s edition.
