The Red River Waterway Commission has closed all boat launches at their recreation areas on the Red River due to rises on the river. Those closures include the boat launch in Coushatta. The entrance has been chained and locked.
The Commission said on their Facebook page, “We will keep you informed once it is safe to reopen. We will reopen the boat ramps when the water level falls below the guidelines set with local law enforcement and safety officials.”
The weather service posted a flash flood watch on Thursday morning that covers portions of northwest Louisiana, east Texas and southern Arkansas. That watch could be extended so check their website at weather.gov/shv for updates.
Weather.com adds, “Minor flooding is occurring at Coushatta and moderate flooding is forecast. Flood stage at Coushatta is 31 feet. The forecast: The river will continue rising to near 34.0 feet by Sunday evening then begin falling.”
Weather.com said, “Severe backwater flooding occurs from the confluence of the Red River with Loggy Bayou through the lower Flat River and Red Chute Bayou in southern Bossier Parish.”
