Traffic Stop Leads to Two Arrests

At approximately 11:15 p.m. on June 29, 2017, a Red River Parish Sheriff’s Office (RRPSO) deputy initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling south on US Hwy 371 near LA Hwy 786. In addition to the license plate being expired, a records check showed that it was displayed on the incorrect vehicle.

After making contact with the driver, identified as Shari Young, an NCIC (National Crime Information Center) inquiry revealed that she had an active warrant through Bienville Parish for issuing worthless checks. She was taken into custody without incident.

After learning that the passenger, identified as Royce Young, may be in possession of a firearm, a pair of deputies approached with caution as they instructed him to exit the vehicle. Young, who had two outstanding warrants through the RRPSO for issuing worthless checks and failure to appear, complied with instructions.

As Royce Young was taken into custody without incident, he confirmed the presence of a handgun under the passenger seat. A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded a .40 caliber Glock handgun.

During the search deputies noted the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. Deputies recovered multiple glass smoking pipes containing narcotics residue, 1 gram of suspected marijuana and 1.4 grams of suspected methamphetamine (meth).

All items were seized as evidence and both subjects were transported to the Red River Parish Jail (RRPJ) for booking.

Shari E. Young, W/F, age 36 of the 300 block of Hwy 486, Campti, LA was booked into the RRPJ on an out of parish fugitive warrant for 3 counts of Issuing Worthless Checks. On June 30, 2017 she was released into the custody of the Bienville Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Royce A. Young, W/M, age 37 also of the 300 block of Hwy 486, Campti, LA was charged with one count each of the following: Possession of Schedule II CDS (Controlled Dangerous Substance) with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Firearm in Presence of a CDS, Issuing Worthless Checks and Failure to Appear. Bond has not been set at this time and he remains incarcerated.
